Alchemist/Brewmaster

What if Alchemy was added in as a tradeskill? It could be pretty much the same as baking, except that the affects could be slightly different, and the Alchemy skill would be a nice RP alternative to baking. For example, Arc shouldn't be all cooks, but Alchemists make sense.

"Brewing" is already on the list of things to do, but has been pushed back at the moment due to more vital things being worked. BUT, it is on the list of things to do.

What benefits would you work toward on a new tradeskill for in terms of brewing, or a larger 'imbuing' tradeskill?

Re: Alchemist/Brewmaster

Potions are the consumables with the greatest versatility - sort of like scrolls but without being able to use on others

When you take into consideration that potions have 4 'spell slots', many possibilities open up:
"Reverse dispel" : sanctuary + magic ward + fly + haste
"Cure blind" : heal blindness x 4
"Tons of heal" : any healing x 4
"Yo, gatorade me" : refresh x4
"Other magic" : detect magic + armor + shield + stone skin [for fighters]
"**** enemies off" : mirror image + any healing x 3
"Chain Spam" : chain lightning x4

Yup...some stuff might be too powerful and require some restrictions.

Also, it would be interesting is players could only brew potions with spells from their respective classes. Nothing against barbarians getting mirror images but it would be an incentive for trading potions and whatnot.

Why shouldn't Arcs be cooks when baked goods are demonstrably magical in nature? How does alchemy make any more sense than cooking?

If scrolls can be used on other people, that makes them the more versatile consumable than potions. It also means scrolls can be used offensively, adding to their versatility (and amount of spells people actually want to see on them). The main thing potions have going for them are RP flavor and that they don't have a skill tied to their use, otherwise, scrolls would be the way to go every time.

What sort of potions would fighters be able brew, then? Sanctuary, maybe cure critical, teleport, magic ward? Not a very exciting tradeskill compared to the options more dedicated spellcasters would have.

Re: Alchemist/Brewmaster

Didn't really consider scrolls as a consumable, that's why I said 'like scrolls'.
But yea, if you consider them consumables, then they are the most versatile.

As for being class-restricted, you are right. That would be pretty crippling.
